OF CENTRE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL & AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT

Legal Status:

Centre for Environmental & Agricultural Development is a Civil Society Organization founded in 1996 in Tombel, Kupe-Muanenguba Division,  South West Region of CAMEROON.

On the 26th of August 1997, CEADEV was legalized with Registration Number 47/l/g.42/a1 of 26/08/1997 by the Ministry of Territorial Administration and under the Cameroonian Law of Association N0 90/053 OF 12th December 1990.

Membership:

CEADEV started with a gender membership of 05 persons and today her membership stands at 12: 08 Permanent staff and 04 Volunteers, working under the leadership of Mr. EKOME SAME Lucas Sperack, who is the Executive Director and Managing Director General. Membership into CEADEV is open to all gender-based humankind, irrespective of race, ethnic, religious, cultural and social affinity, but restricted to politicians of any kind.

VISION:

CEADEV envisages the creation of an enabling environment endowed with a rich and diversified natural resource base focused on the "Principle of Equity in Human Existence and Equal Opportunity for All and by All". To complement on this, CEADEV advocates for a liberty-free universal living atmosphere, wherein all races, classes of people, cultures and traditions handed down to man in his Divine Creation and Image Representation (Let's make Man out of Our OWN Image) for which the vices of Marginalization, Discrimination, Stigmatization, Usurpation, Abuse of and Violence against Human Rights should have NO place whatsoever.

MISSION STATEMENT:

In accordance with the our knowledge of the factors and values of development, CEADEV has as a mission to overcome the increasing poor socio-cultural and agro-economic constraints and the complex inherent problems of Unemployment, Food Insecurity, Climate Change, Trade & Commercial Regression, Biodiversity Loss, Deforestation, Farmer-led Poverty, Environmental Damage Health-deficiency, Poor Living Conditions of target underserved, underprivileged, helpless, hard-to-reach, enclave and Have-not Populations at Rural Level.

OUR GOAL/GLOBAL OBJECTIVES:

These are inter alia:-

  • To promote Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women and Youths
  • To reduce by 2/3 the population of rural-urban inhabitants who are subjected to abject poverty and extreme hunger.
  • To promote environmental Conservation and Biodiversity Management.
  • To promote and secure the rational utilization of the medicinal values and nutritional potentials of plant genetic resources and natural crops to address issues of health-deficiency viz HIV/AIDS and other mortality-sensitive diseases.
  • To use our available human resource capacities with an intent to access education and training to all segments of our target rural population.
  • To scheme a Global Partnership in Development with other Development Actors at National, Regional & International levels.

To fully accomplish this programmatic priorities, we aim at linking environmentally sound, socio-cultural, agro-economic and human empowerment to achieve sustainable development within the fabrics of networking and partnership.

OUR SPECIF OBJECTIVES: CEADEV has the following specific objectives:-

  • To assist target Farming Groups and Rural Communities in initiating, conceiving, formulating and developing income-generation projects in diversified agriculture.
  • To educate and train local Farmers on environmentally and agriculturally-driven projects and/or initiatives.
  • To put in place a Farmer-led Participatory Agricultural & Rural Community Development Programme based on promoting Self-Reliant Development values.
  • To actively integrate Women and Youths in Agro-farming and Micro Enterprise and Business Development.
  • To assist disadvantage farmers in locating and acquiring external, technical, materials and financial assistance.
  • To complement on national policies of Environmental Conservation and Community Forest Management, Wildlife Protection, Food Security, Poverty Reduction & Illiteracy Eradication.

We operate in Grassland/Savannah Highlands; Dense Forest Regions; Rural - Urban Environments; Hard-to-reach and Enclave Zones.

Our activities are focused on the following fields:-

Sustainable Agriculture

  • Organic Farming
  • Food & Cash Crop Production, Transformation, Marketing & Commercialization
  • Animal & Livestock Farming (Snail Breeding; Bee Keeping; Cane Rat Farming; Poultry-raising; Fish Farming etc)
  • Sourcing and Marketing of Agricultural & Mineral Products

Environmental & Natural Resources Management

  • Rehabilitation of Arable Lands and Shelters
  • Reforestation of Degraded Ecology
  • Domestication of Non-Timber Forest Products
  • Promotion & Protection of Community Forests and Family Lands
  • Promotion of Agroforestry Campaigns

Promotion of Women & Youth in Development

  • Education & Vocational Training (Social Mobilization & Capacity-building)
  • Integration of Women & Youths in Productive ventures/projects
  • Advocacy towards the Fundamental Human Rights of Women and Girl Children
  • Education & Capacity-Strengthening of Women and Youths on Preservation & Promotion of Cultural and Traditional Values (The Pan-African Initiative)
  • Establishing Safety Nets in Rural Credit & Revolving Loan Schemes (Village Banking)
  • Market Development and Entrepreurship amongst Rural Women
  • Micro Enterprise Development

Education & Training:

This is regularly focused on: Workshops; Seminars; Public Lectures; Debates; Conferences & Advocacy Campaigns; lobbying for overseas scholarship-driven opportunities in Academic, Career and Professional Development.

Energy, Water, Hygiene & Sanitation:

  • Assist target Rural Communities in gaining access to Safe & Clean Water, Pipe-Borne Water Supply; Rural Electricity/Solar Energy Facilities; Clean Wells; Bore-holes
  • Create awareness and promote education to ensure Clean Homes, Better Housing; Public Latrines and Toilets; Garbage Disposal Schemes and Facilities.

Rural Infrastructure & Community Development:

  • Approach Communities to initiate and form Community Development Associations; Common Initiative Groups; Community-based Organizations; Women's & Youth Groups.
  • Conduct Needs Assessment, Conceive, Formulate and help develop Income-generating Projects.
  • Lobby and negotiate for funding to help build Community Centres, Community Halls, Bridges, Farm-to-market Roads, Health Centres/Hospitals, Mobile Health Posts, Computer Centres, Arts & Craftsmanship Centres, Sewing Centres.

We provide IEC on the basics of:-

  • Natural Products Utilization
  • HIV/AIDS Control & Prevention
  • Balanced Diet & Natural Foods
  • Counselling & Advocacy against Stigma, Discrimination and Marginalization against Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWAs)
